Thankful

“Do you think she going to be home for thanksgiving?”

A question we asked ourselves time and time again over the last few months.

The summer heat was exchanged for falling leaves and then the chill of winter set in watching the days pass by in the hospital.

Each new month beginning made it even less likely she would spend her first holidays at home.

Then when she went back into the hospital 5 days after coming home we really thought we would be eating our thanksgiving meal at the hospital food court.

I had so many expectations for our first holiday season as three.

Many faces around the table. Laughter and voices filling the room.

The outfits, family photos, her sampling her first foods.

Last year I was just imagining our life together, only knowing of her for merely days.

Hoping, praying she would continue to grow and she would be the baby we would bring home with us.

Little did we know how that her continuing to grow was only the first of many obstacles we would face before bringing her home.

Today the house is quiet. The sounds come from quiet voices, babbling, Christmas movies and beeps from a feeding pump.

Our home may be the most empty it has been for the holidays, but my heart is the most full.

We have so much to be thankful for

Rewriting the Chapters

I feel as if the recent chapters of my life have been characterized as tragedies. Beautiful and raw and poetic but at the same time a lot...
